Debian Jessie on the Acer Switch 10

Here are some install notes that I never completed, since I got rid of the system before I had a chance to finish. I got wifi working and efi grub2 booting working, but had no luck with sound. I got the keyboard working after modifying include/linux/hid.h so that HID_MAX_USAGES was set to 65536

Download AMD64 iso

Get USB keyboard

Basic directions

Some random tips

Build 32-bit grub efi

Make bootable usb with unetbootin using debian ISO

Copy bootia32.efi to usb /efi/boot

Copy grub-core to usb /

Hit F2 to get to BIOS setup

Set BIOS admin password

Disable secure boot check

Enable F12 menu

Save and reboot

Hit F12 and select USB drive

Ignore grub errors and run Debian installer

GRUB installation failed, ‘grub-efi-a32’ has no installation candidate

Alt+F2 to drop to shell and apt-install grub-efi-amd64

Move M$ EFI files out of the way

mv /target/boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft/ /target/boot/efi/EFI/_Microsoft

Make new Microsoft EFI directory because that’s where the BIOS looks for EFI images

mkdir -p /target/boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft/Boot

cp /cdrom/efi/boot/bootia32.efi /target/boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi

cd /cdrom/grub-core

./grub-install –recheck /dev/mmcblk0p1

mount –remount /dev/ /target/dev/
mount –remount /dev/pts /target/dev/pts
mount –remount /proc /target/proc
mount –remount /sys /target/sys

chroot to /target


Alt+F1 to get back to installer

Hit continue, select continue without boot loader from the Debian installer main menu

Copy brcmfmac43241b4-sdio.txt to /lib/firmware/brcm/
